How do I file a police report?
Incident reports must be taken in person, either at the police station located at 2207 Clinton Drive or by an officer coming to your house or the scene of the crime.

How can I get a copy of an accident report or incident report?
Accident and incident reports are available by completing an open records request at City Hall located at 2000 Clinton Drive, Galena Park, Texas 77547.  There is a nominal fee for the copies.  You may contact City Hall at 713-672-2556 for a fee schedule.  You can get a copy of a report by written request, in person, or through the mail. If your request is by mail, you need to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope and include a letter requesting a copy of your accident or incident report, along with the required fees.  Requests take at least 48 hours to process and can be picked up at the police department 24 hrs a day. The police department is located at 2207 Clinton Drive.  Anyone can pick up a copy of the report as long as they have the case number. City Hall is open 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday – Friday, excluding holidays.

How can I get fingerprinted?
Everyone that is arrested gets fingerprinted. If you need to be fingerprinted for other purposes, you may come to the police station located at 2207 Clinton Drive.  Fingerprints can be done Monday thru Friday.  A valid driver license is required and there is a $10.00 fee per fingerprint card.

How can I find out how much a traffic citation will cost?
You need to contact the court clerk at 713-672-2556.  You may also go in person to the court clerk’s office located at 2000 Clinton Drive.  The court clerk’s office is open 8am – 5pm, Monday thru Friday, excluding holidays.

Do I need to obtain a permit if I am hauling a commercial oversized load through the City of Galena Park?
Yes, an additional permit is required when hauling commercial oversized loads through the City of Galena Park.  The city permit is in addition to any state permits already obtained and costs $50.00.  You may apply for the permit at the Galena Park Police Department located at 2207 Clinton Drive.  If you have any questions regarding commercial oversized permits, please contact 713-675-3471.

Do I need an alarm permit for a home or business alarm?
Yes.  If your home or business has an alarm, a permit is required within the City of Galena Park. Permits may be obtained from City Hall located at 2000 Clinton Drive. There is a nominal fee for an alarm permit.  If you have questions regarding an alarm permit, please call 713-672-8219.

Is there a teen curfew?
Persons age 16 and younger are prohibited from public places within the City of Galena Park without adult supervision between the hours of 12:00am (midnight) and 6:00am.  

How can I get a copy of my criminal record?
Criminal records are maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Please call

What is the law on passing an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of the road?
The law states that when approaching ANY emergency vehicle (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.), you must vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle.  If you are on a multi-lane roadway you must change to a lane that is not next to an emergency vehicle. If you only have one lane then you must slow to a speed not more than 20 MPH below the posted speed limit.

Can I park my vehicle in the yard at my residence?
A vehicle cannot be parked in the yard of a residence for more than 4 hours.  A vehicle must be parked in the driveway or garage.  A person may be fined $100.00 to $500.00 upon conviction.  Each day of a violation shall constitute a separate offense with a fine of $100.00 to $150.00 for each day of such violation.

Can I lose my driver’s license if I am under 18 and get caught with tobacco by the police?
Yes, a judge can suspend your license if you do not attend the mandatory tobacco awareness class after being convicted of possession of a tobacco product.

How long after my driver’s license expires do I have before the police can ticket me?
You can be ticketed for an expired license the day after it expires.

Can I cut through a parking lot when traffic is heavy? 
No, it is against the law to cut through any parking lot to turn onto one highway from another highway.

What is considered to be unlawful noise?
It shall be unlawful for any person to make, continue, or cause to be made or continued any loud, unnecessary or unusual noise or any noise which either annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of others within the City of Galena Park.

How long does my turn signal have to be on to make a turn?
You are required to activate your turn signal at least 100 feet before you make you turn or change lanes.

Can I pass a school bus, unloading children, on a road with a median?
You cannot pass a school bus when unloading or loading children.  The only exception is if the roadway is divided, separating the road into two separate roads.  The separation may be made by a concrete barrier or grassy median, not by lines painted on the road.

Can I be arrested for a traffic violation?
Yes, anyone can be arrested for any traffic violation except for speeding and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.  It is at the officer's discretion on how to handle each situation.

Do I need a permit to have a garage sale at my residence?
Yes, you are required to obtain a permit from City Hall located at 2000 Clinton Drive in order to have a garage sale at your residence.  There is a nominal fee for the permit and there are limitations on the number of garage sale you can have in a year.  For questions, please call

Can I park a vehicle on the street with an expired registration or inspection sticker?
No, you cannot park a vehicle in the street within the City of Galena Park that has an expired registration or expired inspection.

How long can I legally park a vehicle on the street?
If your registration and inspection sticker is current, you may park your vehicle on the street within the City of Galena Park.  You cannot, however, leave the vehicle in the street for a period of more than 24 hrs consecutively, unless otherwise posted.

If I own a dog or cat do I need to obtain a city license?
Yes, you are required to obtain a license from City Hall located at 2000 Clinton Drive for each dog or cat.  There is a nominal fee for the license.  You must attach the city license, along with a rabies tag, to the collar or harness of the dog or cat for which it was issued.  For questions, please call 713-672-2556.

How many dogs or cats am I allowed to license with the city?
A person may only obtain a license for two (2) dogs or two (2) cats to keep or maintain at one place within the corporate city limits of the City of Galena Park.

Do I have to use a leash to walk my dog or cat in a public place?
Yes, a leash is required to be securely fastened to the collar or harness of a dog or cat when you are walking them in a public place.

Can I discharge or possess fireworks within the City of Galena Park?
No, all fireworks are prohibited within the City of Galena Park.  To possess or discharge fireworks is illegal and you may be fined.
